Perfect Samurai puzzles in Washington Express

Filed under: Samurai sudoku, syndication, washington post — djape @ 12:55 am

I have another announcement to make – as of tomorrow – Friday, November 18, our Samurai puzzles will be published every Friday in Washington Express a free daily commuter newspaper that is published in Washington D.C..

It is highly likely that there will also be Killer Sudokus published in the same paper very soon

So if you live or work in that area, look for your free copy of Washington Express around your metro station!

Ye gods, this will RUIN my productivity today. I usually do the “simple” sudoku puzzle on my train commute to work. I opened up the Express to this page and was stunned. Looks like great fun, if only my co-workers didn’t expect me to WORK today.

I’m with Brian on this one. What are you doing to my free time?!?!

Thanks so very much for feeding the DC metro area with our addiction. One gripe though – the Express just has too many Pappocom “hard” rated ones…I know you’re not to blame for that, but since inevitably every Friday Express has a Pappocom hard, I sure hope that Samurai Sudokus are also hard. Gotta think of us newbies.

I saw the Samurai Sudoku header across the front page of Friday’s WDC Express and quickly thumbed through to find to my exultation the biggest sudoku I had ever seen! “Woohoo!” was the word that I think came to mind as I salivated at the prospect of the Everlasting Gobstopper of sudoku puzzles…and one that would compel me to use pencil & newsprint. Indeed it took some time to solve, but the difficulty was not very great as hardly any penciling-in was required. And so I say, “Fetch hither the harder stuff with all speed!”

Ecky-Pting, I know that the Samurai published in Washington Express last Friday was fairly easy – but that’s how it usually goes – you always start with easy ones :) . Don’t worry, they’ll get harder and harder (it’s up to the publisher to decide on the difficulty, but this is what they tell me anyway).

Where is the answer to the first puzzle? It was never published.

    Also, can you explain swordfish?

  6. Hymie says:

    Greetings.

For the last two weeks, the Samurai Soduku puzzles in the Washington Post Express have not matched the “Last Week’s Solution”s.

The January 13th puzzle had, in the top row of the top-left sudoku
    8__ 6_2 ___

The January 20th “Last Week’s Solution” gave this answer:
    962 435 187

The January 20th puzzle had this top-left top row
    85_ __4 3_1

The January 27th “Last Week’s Solution” gave this answer:
    924 378 561

    Can this be fixed?

    Thanks.

Hi Hymie – thanks for letting me know about this problem. I have contacted the publisher and I will let you know what’s going on as soon as I get their response.
