Consecutive Samurai Sudoku

Since the focus is now on Samurai Sudoku puzzles ;) , I’d like to introduce yet another variant of this overlapping 5-in-1 Sudoku puzzles: Consecutive Samurai Sudoku!

As far as I know, this is one of a kind puzzle – if you have already seen it elsewhere please do let me know.

So, “pipes” (“|” symbols) between cells mean that those cells must contain consecutive numbers. If there is no pipe – those cells can’t contain consecutive numbers. This second part of the rule is very important but also easy to forget.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on how difficult you find these puzzles. There are only 12 starting clues, so it might seem too difficult, but only the very basic techniques are required. Once you get going, it becomes a whole lot easier. Good luck and enjoy!

The Way of Samurai: 101 Samurai Sudoku puzzles

Surely something that you have all been waiting for: a book with 101 of my carefully selected Samurai Sudoku puzzles!

This book is being published in Portugal only, thanks to Via Optima. The title of the book in Portuguese is A Via do Samurai.

However, knowing that you are all waiting for something like this, I have also published an online version of this book through lulu.com. For the time being, the book is available as an e-book (PDF) version and can already be purchased on lulu!

(click on the cover page to go to lulu and buy!)

US $4.95 or £2.88 (PDF e-book)

(payable by PayPal or credit card)

In this book you will find:
- 80 Samurai Sudoku puzzles
- 20 Sudoku Samurai X puzzles
- 1 bonus Killer Samurai puzzle

Puzzles are split into 4 levels of difficulty, but under each level you will find some that are easier or harder than others. In the final level, there are even 5 puzzles rated INSANE!

Puzzles also come with different symmetrical properties: individual (each sub-puzzle looks the same), full, horizontal and diagonal (rotational) symmetry. Rotationally symmetrical puzzles are usually the most difficult ones.

Some new books will also be relaesed in this format… guess what’s coming next?

Clueless Killer Sudoku #2

Filed under: Sample puzzles — djape @ 12:35 pm

For those who don’t get enough challenge from Killer Samurai Sudoku nor from Harakiri nor from Twin Killer nor from any other overlapping, odd/even, consecutive or greater/less than sudoku – here is the ultimate challenge – my second ever Clueless Killer Sudoku.

If your friends or family call you names when they see you solving this puzzle – please do not complain to me. In fact, I suggest that you just download this puzzle, have a look, but don’t attempt to solve it.

Again, thanks to Ruud from www.sudocue.net for inventing the “clueless” concept.

In this puzzle, there are 9 Sudoku puzzles with no overlapping regions! If you attempt to solve them individually – you won’t get far.

Here is where the “clueless” part comes in: in all of those 9 puzzles, the center nonet is just one cage. As you plug in your numbers, center nonets (shaded in grey) start filling up. The trick is that those 9 center nonets, put together, also constitute a valid Sudoku puzzle. So, when you run out of ideas, start working on the 10th puzzle and it will give you enough information to solve the whole lot. Those 10 puzzles together have, of course, a single solution.

Clueless Killer Sudoku for Monday, May 15 – this is the only place you can find these kind of Sudoku puzzles!

Webmasters – display our Daily Killer Sudoku puzzles on your site for FREE!

I have created a way for webmasters to display our Daily Killer Sudoku puzzles for FREE on their websites!

You don’t need to pay nor sign up for this daily feed – all you have to do is copy this code…

…and show it on your webpage, anywhere you want!

Important: The code shown above will show our Daily Killer puzzles as an image which will also be a link to this site. Further, one Google AdSense ad will be shown below the puzzle. The ad will be 468×60 pixels. You can still keep your ads on your site. If you are already showing Google AdSense ads, you can have 2 ads at the most, because Google will not display more than 3 ads on one page (and one will be shown by the daily killer feed).

Your site must conform with Google AdSense policy. If it doesn’t, puzzles will not be served to your site. Also, if you alter the code shown above in any way so that the puzzle and/or ad is not shown as intended, this service will be disabled for your site.

This is what this daily feed will look like if you show it on your site:

I would appreciate if the sites that decide to show our puzzles sent me an e-mail when they start displaying them (I will get that information in the log anyway).

Introducing “Twin Killer” Sudoku puzzles!

Filed under: Sample puzzles — djape @ 10:22 am

Another Sudoku variation that I have adopted from my readers: Twin Killer Sudoku.

Two puzzles that do not overlap. Instead, they are placed next to each other, but most importantly – they both have the same solution. Or, to be more precise, you are looking for one solution that solves both puzzles.

Now, I had to add a little twist, again. Normally, these are shown as two completely separate Killer Sudoku puzzles. So, they are twins but they live their separate lives. However, in the puzzle that you will download in a few seconds, my twins are conjoined, or if you like, siamese twins.

Twin Killer Sudoku

The final solution is here.

More Perfect Sudoku in Switzerland!

Filed under: syndication — djape @ 9:53 am

I am very pleased to make these two announcements – both are related to publications in Switzerland only:

1. A book by Thierry Godel (published by Favre) has come out. It is called “L’essentiel du Sudoku” and it contains various Sudoku puzzles created, naturally, by Perfect Sudoku. Thierry is THE Sudoku man in Switzerland. I wish him good luck with the book. Click on the book cover below to find out more about the book and puzzles inside.

2. Another brochure by Le Matin with my puzzles is available on newsstands in Switzerland. This time, in addition to Sudoku and Sudoku X, it also contains Double X puzzles. Plus, there is a competition in which you can win prizes! Good luck!
